We opened in June 2020 as a new Café, we were temporarily closed from November 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions in England. We returned and reopened on 14th April 2021 for outside and takeaway, and we reopened on Monday 17th May for indoor and outdoor dining including takeaway.
Why are we called The 1911 Cafe?
Well, this is where history takes place, the 1911 part if the building we are located in, this was originally a school, Brownshore first school as it later became known which closed in the mid 1980’s. (It was then sold to the local parish council and became and still is a community centre) It was built in 1911, if you look at the front of the building there is a stone dated block, we added the cafe inside and hey presto the 1911 cafe was born, the name was chosen by James’ husband John who was one of the last set of pupils who went to the school. The large room was class rooms and the kitchen a by the counter, a clock room. The kitchen was originally toilets. The whole red brick building was the original school where many of our customers now came to school. The rest of the building are extensions.
